How it works
Know where you are.
Know what comes next.
A clear path from your first request to ongoing case support — with people, not an algorithm.
A seven-stage path
From first request
to ongoing support.
Project Taken Back is a human-led process. It starts with a public request and, if invited, moves to a private application, human review and membership activation. Identity verification is deferred during our BETA phase. Support continues beyond activation as your case develops.
Public
Public request
You start with a short, public request form. Tell us, in your own words, what you’re facing. This helps us understand your situation and decide whether to invite you to apply.
Invitation
Invitation
If your request aligns with our mission, a member of our team may send you an invitation to apply. An invitation is not a guarantee — it simply means we’d like to learn more through a private application.
Private
Application
Invited individuals can complete a more detailed, private application. You’ll be able to share additional context and documents to help us understand your needs.
Human decision
Human review
Our team carefully reviews each application. Real people evaluate the information and determine whether to make a membership offer. This is a thoughtful, human process — not an automated decision.
BETA
Identity verification — deferred during BETA
We plan to verify identity in the future. During BETA, identity verification is deferred and will not affect whether you receive an offer. We will share details before this step is introduced.
Membership
Offer & activation
If approved, you’ll receive a membership offer. You decide whether to accept. After you accept, we’ll help you complete the final steps to activate your membership and get you set up for support.
Ongoing support
Continuing case work
Once activated, we work with you on an ongoing basis as your case develops. Support may include guidance, resources and next steps tailored to your situation.
